INXS CELEBRATE 25 YEARS WITH NEW ANTHOLOGY"Michael's greatest wish was that we would 'matter' as a band, that our music would leave a mark and mean something. This collection of songs reflects the many moods and diversity that made up the INXS sound throughout our career." Kirk Pengilly. After an extraordinary 25-year career, INXS have released a definitive CD collection around the world.
"The Years 1979 - 1997" is a 41-track double CD featuring two previously unreleased tracks "Tight" and "Salvation Jane". It is a lavishly compiled collection with comprehensive liner notes from the band and an extensive picture gallery.
"Tight", dating to the 1992 "Welcome to Wherever You Are" sessions, will also be released as a limited edition single with three additional remixes, The Randy Radio Edit, The Thick Dick remix and the Dino Lenny remix.
"Salvation Jane" was written by Andrew Farriss during the massive Kick tour in 1988, and was originally recorded during the sessions for the follow-up "X" album.
Spanning the band's entire career,
"The Years 1979 - 1997" kicks off with "Just Keep Walking" and "The Loved One" and rips through literally dozens of INXS chart hits, including "Original Sin", "What You Need", "Need You Tonight", "New Sensation", "Devil Inside" "Mystify", Suicide Blonde", "Never Tear Us Apart" and "Kick".
With more than 30 million albums sold, a run of six consecutive US Top Ten singles, concerts to crowds as large as the 75,000 at London's Wembley Arena in 1991 and a history peppered with outstanding achievements, INXS are arguably Australia's most successful rock export. Their international chart statistics remain truly staggering - the band amassed six consecutive Top Ten UK and US albums, 23 UK chart hits and 17 US chart hits.
In Australia INXS had an amazing 38 Top 40 singles, and along the way provided the soundtrack to the lives of a generation of music fans. Not surprisingly, the band received an emotional and rousing standing ovation when they were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame last year.
"The Years 1979 - 1997" is a stunning testament to the music of one of the country's greatest bands and should be a "must-have" for every Australian music fan.
Meanwhile, the band are currently demoing songs for a new INXS album. All members have been writing songs individually and collectively and are keen to get back into the studio. INXS return to Latin America in November for further dates following their incredible sold out tour in May, and then continue on to the UK for an arena tour with Blondie until December 18.
