Into White Silence

Into White Silence

During the winter of 1922, the Exploration Vessel RAVEN became trapped in the Antarctic icepack, entombing twenty-eight men aboard it through the dark polar night.

INTO WHITE SILENCE tells their story - a story of a lost past, of a tragic future, of ice, ambition and madness. It captures the terrible, fascinating beauty of Antarctica, both as it was then and as it is today, and is a journey into the mind of every person who has ever set foot upon those ice-bound shores.

Anthony Eaton
Born in Papua New Guinea in 1972, Anthony Eaton spent an idyllic childhood growing up in the Perth hills and the Cocos Keeling Islands. He attended High School and University in Perth and studied a plethora of subjects before settling on a career in Teaching. He worked as a Literature and Drama teacher for eight years, during which time his first novel, THE DARKNESS, was published by UQP. The novel was awarded the 2001 Western Australian Premier's Award for Young Adult Literature, and encouraged Anthony to turn his hand to further writing. In 2005, his historic fiction novel FIRESHADOW also won the WA Premier's Award for Young Adult Literature and was named an Honour Book in the CBCA Book of the Year Awards. His most recent books are SKYFALL, the second book of his Darklands speculative fiction trilogy, which was published in July 2007, and NATHAN NUTTBOARD: UPSTAGED, which will be released in May 2008. In 2007, he also completed his PhD in creative writing with the University of Western Australia. To assist in the research for INTO WHITE SILENCE, he spent Christmas of 2005 at Casey Station on the east coast of Antarctica as part of the Australian Antarctic Division's Arts Fellowships programme. He lives in Canberra, with his wife, Imogen, and a slightly deranged Kelpie named Chelsea.
