In Hovering Flight

How to write a novel about a bird song:
When Joyce Hinnefeld sat down to write her first novel she only knew she wanted to write about a bird song.

The result is a glorious and beautiful story about family and friends, mothers and daughters and life, art and passion and of course, birds.

Tracing the lives of artist and environmental activist, Addie Sturmer, her husband, ornithologist Tom Kavanagh and their daughter, the rebellious Scarlet, this elegant, engrossing novel has, as its base, the stuff that makes us human.

Praise for In Hovering Flight:
"The moment of this novel is frankly a miracle, but a natural one- like the graceful flight of a bird, gliding along a path you couldn't trace if you tried... In Hovering Flight is as quiet as twilight and just as lovely."
Ron Charles, The Washington Post

"Provocative and page-turning... Hinnefeld's drama soars..."
Publisher's Weekly

"A rich first novel about love, loss and the fragile beauty of nature... this moving book is strongly recomnneded."
