Alinghi fully deserved their win. The Swiss team were more consistent than any other team and they dominated the season," said Red Bull skipper Roman Hagara, congratulating his rival Morgan Larson.
Austria-flagged Red Bull Sailing Team led by double Olympic champions Hagara and tactician Hans-Peter Steinacher could not repeat last year's feat when they finished third overall, completing the season in sixth place.
"We had a great start to the season but after our crash in April in China things turned. It seems we all never got it out of our heads. But we do not have to hide. Instead we will attack in 2015."
Red Bull Sailing Team, however, still finished off their season in style, winning one race and clinching seven more podium finishes in Sydney. Red Bull had led regattas throughout the season as well.
"We know we have to work a lot on some aspects where mistakes happened or we lacked consistency,' said Hagara.
The 2015 season start is now just 53 days away with the world's best sailing teams kicking off their campaign in Singapore in February. Red Bull Sailing's carbon multi-hull will undergo an overhaul in Australia and then shipped straight to Singapore for the season opener.
There will be no time for much of a break for Hagara and Steinacher who launch their pre-season preparations straight after the Christmas holidays. 'First in the gym and weights room at home and then in the end of January to our first training camp."
