French Milk

French Milk

Lucy Knisley has done what most people only dream of doing. To celebrate her 22nd birthday and her mother's own milestone of turning 50, the two decided to embark on a six-week trip to Paris. Following in the footsteps of Ernest Hemingway, Audrey Hepburn and Lucy's beloved idol Oscar Wilde, mother and daughter set out to experience all of what the city has to offer. French Milk recreates their Parisian adventure through Lucy's whimsical drawings, photographs and musings.

With a quirky flat in the fifth arrondissement as their home base, Lucy and her mum waste no time getting to know their new neighbourhood. They spend their days exploring sites both on and off the beaten path- from flea markets and comic shops to cemeteries, museums and cafes. A passionate foodie, Lucy's story is infused with sweet and savoury illustrations and descriptions of the Parisian food in which she indulged. Over the course of her stay, she ate approximately 60 croissants, more than 400 cornichons and a metric ton of chocolate mousse- and that doesn't even include her true favourite…delicious French milk!

With the sights and smells of Paris floating off the pages, French Milk is much more than a love letter to the City of Lights; it is a testament to the special relationship between mothers and daughter.

Lucy Knisley is a recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and currently attends the Centre of Cartoon Studies where she was awarded the prestigious Diamond in the Rough Scholarship. Born and raised in New York, Lucy currently lives in Chicago.
