Revenge. It's an art.
'I am not usually a huge fiction reader but Don't Tell Eve had me gripped from the first page. It's funny, sexy and seriously stylish, I loved it!' - Julia Morris.
Don't Tell Eve is a fast-paced, tightly plotted, witty novel of obsession and revenge, played out in the publishing industry against background of irritatingly blue skies, catty parties, corporate greed and sexual tension.
Papyrus Press was a respectable, old-fashioned publishing house. Until Eve arrived. Bursting into the office with all the pizzazz of an amateur ballroom dancer, Eve is quickly discovered to be a devil, who doesn't know how to wear Prada. She's been told she must turn the company's flagging finances around, and she doesn't care if her means are fair, foul, ethical, legal or even sensible: they just have to be effective.
With the aid of her sadistic sidekick Hilary, Even believes she has everything under control. But she hasn't counted on the interference from the enigmatic Jess, a woman with her own creative agenda. There is also the small matter of a missing bad-boy celebrity chef, a radical management book, a notorious artist and a set of mysterious dolls.
Disturbingly timely (it includes downsizing and fraud), Don't Tell Eve is a darkly comic and contemporary novel. Full of intrigue and incident, it will have you giggling- and guessing- until the very end.
Airlie Lawson's first novel is Don't Tell Eve, and while she has worked in publishing for a number of years, it is not based on her personal experiences. She's quite insistent on this. And despite the rumours, she doesn't have a separate career as a notorious artist. That said, she does enjoy photograph and drawing and indeed sewing, and there might be a few incidents in the book that were inspired by real events but then, of course, extensively reworked so as to become entirely fictional. Sadly, she won't reveal which ones. Airlie lives in Sydney.
