Coral, Crocs and Rocks

Coral, Crocs and Rocks

Woo-hoo!

Australia Zoo, in partnership with Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort is proud to announce the newest expedition available to avid travellers and conservationists!

Just as the title suggests, you'll get up close and personal with some of the most amazing natural wonders of the world, including the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and the misunderstood apex predator, the saltwater crocodile.

Departing on 17th of August, 2018, you'll fly directly to the southernmost coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef, Lady Elliot Island. This incredible island will leave you spellbound with over 1,200 species of wildlife to discover. Dive into some of the most visible waters on the reef, where you'll likely see manta rays swimming in unison and colourful fish among the coral.

From there, head north to Cairns, for the night (with little sleep from pure excitement) before making your way to the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve where you'll meet the incredible Australia Zoo croc team and the Irwin family on the 2018 Croc Trip.

Situated on the Wenlock River in Far North Queensland, the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve will give you the experience of a lifetime! Be a part of the team that catches, tags and releases crocs with methods developed by Steve himself, so many years ago.

The accommodation isn't five stars, it's five billion! You'll be camping with the rest of the croc team and sitting around the campfire sharing stories and experiences that date back years on the Wenlock.

We know LadyEilliot Island and the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve are both hard to top on this trip, but we're sure going to try! From Weipa, you'll be flown to Cobbold Gorge, a place where the geological landforms date back more than 135 million years. You'll have an experienced guide taking you through the magnificent gorge, before jumping on a flight to the incredible Undara Lava Tubes Lodge.

Terri Irwin,Owner-Director of Australia Zoo said she was thrilled to be able to show off some of Queensland's iconic natural places with some of the most environmentally sustainable operators in Australia.

"We love what we do here at Australia Zoo, across Queensland and the world so it makes sense to be able to show people even more of what we do for conservation.

"There is nothing better than being able to share our passion for conservation, and there is no better place to do that than on the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve. It's one of just a few chances people get to see the research in action and the legacy of Steve," said Terri.

Owner of Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort, Peter Gash said this experience was the trip of a lifetime!

"What's better than stepping into one of the worlds natural wonders – the Great Barrier Reef – and then helping one of the leading research teams in the world, fight for the conservation of one of Australia's apex predators?

"We're so excited that we've partnered with Australia Zoo and the Irwin family to deliver this amazing opportunity," said Peter.

This once in a lifetime experience will be hard to top, so get in quick to secure your spot. The ten-day expedition departs on 17 August 2018 from the Gold Coast.
