Have You Checked Your Pet's Chip?

Petbarn and Greencross Vets are urging Aussies to make sure their pet is microchipped for Check the Chip Day

As of the 1st of July, 2018, each state and territory of Australia (excluding NT) has implemented laws to make microchipping cats and dogs compulsory.

To combat the issue of non-microchipped pets in Australia, Petbarn is teaming up with Greencross Vets for 'Check the Chip Day' this Wednesday 15 August.

From 15th-29th August, Greencross Vets clinics located within a Petbarn store will be offering cat and dog owners $20 microchipping to ensure their beloved pets will always have a connection to their home.

Petbarn Area Manager, Emily Dwyer, says: "At Petbarn, we know our pets are part of the family, which is why it's important to do everything we can to keep them safe and sound. Microchip identification is a simple way to ensure lost pets are reunited with their families quickly."

"The microchipping procedure can be carried out within our Greencross Vets facility during a regular check-up or visit," Emily says.

Dr Rachel Chay, Chief Veterinary Officer of Greencross Vets, says microchipping is a crucial procedure as it ensures pets are identified for life and can be reunited with their owners if they are lost.

"Microchip identification is a preventative measure that can save you from a lot of trouble and heartache if you pet goes missing. The chip has a unique code which means if your pet is found and brought to the vet or pound, we can scan their chip and through the use of a central database find the details of the owner who can be easily contacted and reunited with their beloved pet," Dr Chay says.

"The process is quick and easy. There's no need for anaesthetic and it causes only minor and temporary discomfort to your pet," Dr Chay continues.

Chip details can be easily updated if you happen to change your residential address. It's simply a case of entering your pets unique code into the Australian microchip database site www.petaddress.com.au. If you're unsure of your pet's code, you can call your local Greencross Vets Clinic as the code should be on your pet's patient file or attend the practice to have your pet scanned.
