Bayside Shoppers Help Raise Over $10,000 for Local Families

Last month, Bayside Shopping Centre encouraged shoppers to contribute to a giant mural as part of its -Peninsula Pledge' campaign. Thanks to customers from the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula communities, an impressive $10,333 will be donated to help victims of domestic violence.

Working with local charity WAYSS, who assist with crisis housing and support services, Bayside provided shoppers with the opportunity to colour in a giant drawing of the Frankston foreshore.

The large line sketch was located in the -Fashion Mall' from 11-24 April. Frankston City Council Mayor, James Dooley, was the first to colour-in. The drawing was produced by mindfulness artist, Georgia Perry, and inspired by the latest trend of adult colouring books.

As part of the -Peninsula Pledge' campaign, shoppers were invited to colour in a section of the mural for a $2 donation to WAYSS. Bayside Shopping Centre matched these donations when customers photographed the mural and uploaded it to social media.

Customers could also make a -Peninsula Pledge' by signing up to Bayside's VIP database. In return for signing up, Bayside would donate $1 to WAYSS.

Jessica Harney, Marketing Manager, Bayside Shopping Centre said: 'We are so impressed with the generousity of the Frankston and greater Peninsula communities who supported this initiative. Bayside is committed to addressing key issues facing our community, and domestic violence is sadly something many local families have to face. '

'We're honoured to work with WAYSS. The service was established in Frankston over 15 years ago, and provides invaluable support to victims of domestic violence in the Peninsula community, including homelessness support services, transitional housing for women and children, along with a range of other specialist services. In 2015, WAYSS received almost 8,000 referrals from the Victoria Police. We are truly appreciative of the willingness of the local community to support the campaign and give so generously. '
