This April, Bayside Shopping Centre is encouraging the Frankston community and the wider Mornington Peninsula to get creative to raise awareness of domestic violence, and also to highlight the fantastic work that is already being done to assist those in need.
Supporting local charity WAYSS, the two-week (11th – 24th April) campaign will feature a large-scale line drawing of the iconic Frankston Foreshore, located, and on display, in the Level One Fashion Mall at Bayside. Produced in collaboration with mindfulness illustrator and artist, Georgia Perry, the large-scale line drawing and soon to be mural is inspired by the latest adult colouring-in trend.
Shoppers will be invited to colour in a section of the mural in exchange for a $2 coin donation to WAYSS, until the mural is fully coloured in. In support of shopper's contribution, Bayside will match the donations of any customer who takes a photo and uploads to Instagram, tagging @baysideshopping and using the hashtag #PeninsulaPledge.
'Bayside is committed to addressing key issues facing our community," says Bayside spokesperson and Marketing Manager Jessica Harney, 'and domestic violence is something that is quite prevalent and an ongoing concern for many families.". WAYSS was established in Frankston over 15 years ago, and provides invaluable support to victims of domestic violence in the Peninsula community, including homelessness support services, transitional housing for women and children, along with a range of other specialist services. 'In 2015 alone, WAYSS received almost 8,000 referrals from the Victoria Police, and we are really pleased and proud to be raising awareness of the great work they do, as well as ensuring they can continue to do so for many years to come."
But if colouring is not your forte, don't despair; even those who are not aspiring Picassos can support the campaign by making a pledge at the Centre Information Desk and signing up to Bayside's database. Jessica also says 'In return for each pledge, Bayside will donate $1 on behalf of each customer towards this very important cause".
So grab your pencils and help us help families build a brighter future by making a Peninsula Pledge.
