One of Australia's largest online wellness surveys reveals baby boomers believe they are happier and healthier than millennials
The latest results from Nestlé Choose Wellness Quiz show respondents aged 55 and over believe they are happier, healthier and more optimistic than millennials.
According to the survey, baby boomers believe they get better with age with 27 per cent scoring a happiness score of more than 80 out of 100 compared with just 18 per cent of 18-24 year olds.
The Nestlé Choose Wellness Quiz, taken over 70,000 times in the last two years provides a snapshot of respondent's attitudes and habits towards their happiness and wellbeing.
'Our quiz was developed by motivational psychologists, dietitians and consumer insight analysts. It only takes 10 minutes to complete and offers participants a great way to measure how they're tracking in a quest to live a happier and healthier life," says Katrina Koutoulas, Head of Market Wellness, Nestlé Oceania.
The Choose Wellness quiz found that in the past week, 69 per cent of millennial respondents found themselves worrying (versus 47 per cent of baby boomers), 55 per cent felt alone and lonely in the past week (versus 17 per cent of baby boomers), while forty-one per cent felt downhearted and sad (versus 25 per cent of baby boomers).
However, there is good news for Australia's millennials. Those who participated get more exercise (58 per cent exercise four or more time per week versus 55 per cent of baby boomers), sleep more (62 per cent get seven to eight hours of sleep per night versus 54 per cent of baby boomers) and they feel like there is joy in their life (80 per cent versus 77 per cent).
'From our results, we can see what while baby boomers appear to have the edge on millennials, there is room for improvement for all. By making small changes every day to consciously improve their wellbeing, all Australians can have a life-long positive impact on their emotional, physical and mental wellbeing," adds Ms Koutoulas.
Nestlé wellness ambassador Hugh Sheridan is urging Australians to make one simple choice every day during the month of September to improve their health and wellbeing.
"I understand how challenging it can be to maintain a healthy balance between enduring a heavy work load while still making healthy choices. September's movement is an opportunity for Australians to make small changes that can make a big difference to their overall wellbeing," says Hugh Sheridan.
'The movement has been created to be full of fun ways Australians can improve their wellbeing, both physically and mentally. The challenges are small enough to easily slot into everyday life, but big enough to make a daily difference."
To get involved Nestlé is asking people in Australia and New Zealand to Choose Wellness in a variety of different ways, for example: Choose Flexibility: Touch your toes or strike a pose
