Zebulen Meet Again Interview

Zebulen Meet Again Interview

Meet Again

After travelling across the country to follow his passion, pouring his soul out to tens of thousands on X Factor Australia and even being able to perform in places like the UK, Zebulen has released his heartfelt debut single Meet Again.

Zebulen has proven his drive and dedication on many occasions, none more than when he made the decision to leave his hometown of the Gold Coast to venture down into Melbourne to pursue his dreams. This decision proved to be a catalyst for an ongoing amount of positive change, with Zebulen crediting Melbourne's art and lifestyle culture for allowing him to come out, as well as giving him the opportunity to meet and work with producer Camikaze (Illstrtd, Mack Moses) that brought Meet Again to life.

Zebulen's vocals on Meet Again fall with an undulating smoothness which encapsulates a raw authenticity that could raise hairs on anybody's arms whilst sending shivers down their spine. Coupled with the anthemic synth production of Camikaze, this heartfelt ballad can be felt hitting home emotionally and sonically.

Interview with Zebulen

Question: How would you describe your music?

Zebulen: I've always been told my sound is very unique, so I've always just rolled with that. I focus a lot of my time on my lyrics and always make sure I'm writing from a very personal experience and amazingly enough its strikes chords with different people.

Question: What inspired the track, Meet Again?

Zebulen: Meet Again is about an ex of mine that after going our separate ways, my life really began this amazing journey and my music really started taking off, and at the same time I was hearing his life wasn't doing so great, and because I cared so much, I still found myself trying to help and reach out, but realising it wasn't going to do any of us good in meeting again.

Question: What did your time on X-Factor 2016 teach you about the music industry?

Zebulen: X-Factor was amazing! I had the time of my life on that journey, I met the most amazing people and every part of it was so unexpected. It was incredible to see how hard people work even behind the scenes which really taught me the production side of things, and how much harder I had to work to achieve my dream.

Question: What has changed, for you, since then?

Zebulen: A lot has changed! All of a sudden, without realising it, I've been put on some sort of a public platform, so I've had to be really careful with everything I do. Having strangers come up and complimenting my music is such an incredible feeling.

Question: Can you talk about the message you hope to spread with your music?

Zebulen: All I want to do is help people. I want people to escape whatever situation they're going through and realise we've all been in similar positions. I want to teach people to be 100% themselves and love themselves. I love triggering emotions in people through my music and having them leave with a sense of comfort.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Zebulen: I love performing live over recording! I would love to spend the rest of my life performing and watching people's reactions, seeing people wipe a tear away or hug their friends or partners is the most rewarding feeling and I think I'm just more comfortable on stage than in a confined space.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Zebulen: I tend to get inspired by a lot. My friend's joke that I can't write happy music (laughs) but it's not that at all, I feel more through heartache.

I'm always inspired by people's stories and journeys. It's such an amazing feeling knowing that my way of dealing with any situation is to write it out and connect with others through music.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Zebulen: I'm always listening to Amy Winehouse, but currently, I love Anne Marie and Sam Smith. I love any artist that writes their own material and bears their soul, is a true artist I will always listen to.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Zebulen: Amy Winehouse has always been an incredible inspiration of mine, her talent exceeded the norm and she pushed boundaries and fused so many sounds together. Her attitude towards the industry was very grounding and she was always so humbled by the reaction.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Zebulen: Definitely Sam Smith! One- because he's writing and vocal ability is amazing and it would just be amazing to watch his process; and two - so he can fall in love with me and we can get married and live happily ever after!
