Based on the best-selling novel by Rebecca Wells,
Divine Secrets illuminates the story of Sidda Walker (Sandra Bullock), a headstrong Broadway playwright enjoying career success and an impending marriage.
Sidda's put her less than rosy childhood behind her; that is until a Time magazine profile spills a few too many beans about her relationship with her mother Viva (Ellen Burstyn), and the offended elder kicks up a royal ruckus.
A massive mother-daughter battle ensues and the feud threatens to destroy the resilient, if dysfunctional bond the two women share. It's even making Sidda have second thoughts about her wedding. That's where the Ya-Ya's step in.
Vivi (young Vivi played by Ashley Judd) and her three closest friends formed a secret sisterhood christened Ya-Ya when they were girls, and the indomitable Louisiana-bred women stage an unorthodox intervention in an attempt to mend the rift and save Sidda's marriage.
The pals go to New York, drug and kidnap Sidda, then haul her back to their small Louisiana town. There they force-feed her revelations about Vivi's life and the coven of friendship they swore allegiance to long ago.
