Families, friends and fans of fitness have been set a target of $4 million when they participate in this year's Women in Super Mother's Day Classic, Australia's largest breast cancer research fundraiser, on Sunday May 8.
Registrations are open for the nation-wide event, which traditionally takes place on Mother's Day - find your nearest event at http://www.mothersdayclassic.com.au/event-info/ to register, volunteer or donate online.
The Mother's Day Classic, now in its 19th year, has raised $27.4 million for research into breast cancer, a disease that affects 1 in 8 Australian women.
Initiated by Women in Super, the Mother's Day Classic is striving for every participant to raise $50, which would result in more than $4 million raised for National Breast Cancer Foundation research.
There are 12 metropolitan events covering every capital city, plus regional events in every state and territory from the tiny iron ore town of Pannawonica in Western Australia to exotic Hamilton Island in Queensland.
Mother's Day Classic national chair, Sharon Morris, said each year more than 120,000 people of all ages across Australia participate.
"Our event honours, and provides a positive outlet for, those who have faced breast cancer and their families," Ms Morris said.
'Over the years we have also seen an increase in participants who have no direct link to the disease. These are families, friends and fans of fitness who want to participate because it is a fun, healthy and meaningful way to start Mother's Day."
