Sovereign Hill's Winter Wonderlights Christmas in July

Catch the Gingerbread Man as he mischievously plots his escape from our hungry visitors and prances his way through the Winter Wonderlights as Sovereign Hill celebrates its annual Christmas in July event.

As the sound of carolers echo throughout Sovereign Hill's township, and anticipation of snowfall fills the air, visitors will be swept up in the excitement of a special European-style Christmas event as Sovereign Hill shines brighter than ever before from 1st – 30th July 2017.

The Victorian-style buildings will come alive through the magic of large-scale light projections in the dazzling -Winter Wonderlights' show, and children can attempt to catch the gingerbread man as he dashes from building to building, peeking out from the Christmas themed lights and animations!

With over 20 buildings lit up with yuletide animations, including the New York Bakery, United States Hotel, and Apothecaries' Hall, and over 10km of fairy lights throughout Sovereign Hill's garden, this event is the largest light projection spectacle ever staged in one site anywhere in Australia.

During the day, the entire Sovereign Hill township will evoke a sense of old-world wonder. Visitors can take a stroll down Main Street as snow-flakes fall at regular intervals over the Victorian-style buildings, decorations fill the window displays, the smell of Christmas treats and spices fill the air, and traditional Christmas-themed pantomimes are performed. Visitors will also delight in the Christmas market where they can purchase enchanting decorations, or try some traditional treats including a steaming cup of mulled wine, or a gingerbread biscuit.

At night, as the light fades, Main Street will sparkle with an amazing light projection show with over 20 of Sovereign Hill's buildings lit up with large-scale image projections and Christmas animations. This show, set to Christmas-themed music, will be bigger and brighter than ever before with more buildings lit up in impressive style, evoking the spirit and enchantment of Christmas. Visitors will be given a special passport, so that they can catch sight of the mischievous Gingerbread man as he hides within the building projections.

The cottages and gardens overlooking Main Street will also be filled with fairy lights, and candles will dance in shop windows, so no matter where you look, the old-world charm of the 1850s will bask Sovereign Hill in a golden, yuletide glow.  Entertainers, including illusionists and acrobats, will also perform, delighting visitors with their magical skills

Visitors can enjoy a full day of Christmas excitement with activities for all ages, and as the sun goes down, Sovereign Hill will light up spectacularly each evening after 5.45pm.
