An artist in every sense, WĪLMA LĀ brings flavours of Europe and Middle East into her rich piano and brass based, soulful vocal filled soundscapes, and counters it with stripped back acoustic pieces. Learning from the jazz giants from an early age, she rides across genres with great freedom and joy. Music inspired by love for the ocean, minimalism, spiritual search, and infused with her visual arts background is a journey to be embarked on with all the senses and an open mind. Originally from Lithuania, Wilma has spent 12 years in the Middle East as a full time musician and now lives in Yeppoon, Central Queensland with a young family. Following on from singles "Ocean Heart", "Broken Disco Ball", and "Hey Mama!", WĪLMA LĀ is now set to release her long anticipated debut album Baby Fibonacci.
Co-produced with Paul Pilsneniks at Rockinghorse Studios in Byron Bay, Wilma explains that "Fibonacci, also known as the golden ratio, is a shape of a spiral, inherent in all forms of nature. It's in the swirl of a shell, the curl of a sprout and the splash of the stars across the Milky Way. Us all, are a part of nature. Our life events and the emotions around them don't follow a linear path. The cyclones of grief, the fires of anger, the tides of melancholy, the sun rays of love and the rainbows of joy don't clock on as a 'nine to five'. We don't run through lives only to arrive and crash in a cloud of smoke at point Z."
Being made in the form of a concept album that follows a lyrical theme rather than genre, with diverse sounds ranging between a variety of genres, Wilma explains "Us too, spin through time into the deeper loops of the spiral, to experience the same truths and to learn form them. Music connects the past and the future in a way nothing else can. Music is a perfect proof that there is only ever now. This album is experienced best as an immersion from the beginning to the end."
With a long list of achievements, Wilma was the Eurovision 2015 National rounds finalist (Lithuania), played Village Festival (Yeppoon), Pinefest (Yeppoon), Pilbeam Theatre headliner (Rockhampton), Scorcher Fest Melbourne, and was the recipient of the Livingstone Shire RADF Grant and Cultural Fund (2020, 2021). With each and every song reflecting a piece of Wilma's life, fans won't have to wait much longer to immerse themselves in Wilma's captivating debut album.
