With Olympic swimmer Susie O'Neill leading the charge, thousands of women are getting their friends together for the Wild Women On Top Sydney Coastrek, 50 – 100km Team Challenge, raising funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation.
Sydney Coastrek, which has raised over $4 million for The Fred Hollows Foundation since its inception in 2009, provides the perfect opportunity for women to get fit with their friends by walking and talking along the stunning Sydney coast in just 18-36 hours.
Swimming legend, Susie O'Neill was attracted to the event for exactly that reason, and is entering the 50 km Day Event with friends from her children's primary school. 'Trekking 50km along the beautiful Sydney coastline with friends and changing lives by restoring sight through the work of The Fred Hollows Foundation is the perfect challenge for me," said Susie O'Neill.
Ruth Hollows, the youngest daughter of the late Fred Hollows has an incredible passion to continue the work of her late father. Having discovered Sydney Coastrek in 2011 Ruth has just become a Sydney Coastrek Ambassador. Joining Susie and Ruth are AFL legend Leigh Colbert and beloved Australian broadcaster Julie McCrossin.
The Sydney Coastrek event has been booked out every year since it began in 2009, from humble beginnings when 30 dedicated women trekked 126 km raising just $200, to last year's event which had 2,100 participants and raised over $1.8 million. The goal for 2014 is to raise $2.5 million which represents restoring sight to over 100,000 people in developing nations .
There is a choice of three different events held from February 28th to March 1st 2014: 50km Day: Sun, Sand and Surf; 50km Party All Night, or the entire 100km, Hard Core Challenge from Palm Beach to Coogee.
