Weight Gain Danger Zones

Weight Gain Danger Zones

Most of the time, its the ageing process that gets blamed for a sudden increase in weight or the metabolism has started to slow down and this has resulted in a few extra kilos . This can be true but its nearly always linked with a with a phase of life below. Lets take a look at some of life's phases that we encounter on our journey and how they are linked to weight gain.

QUIT SMOKING

Why do most people put on weight when they stop smoking ? smoking can reduce the appetite , and when a smoker gets hungry he can overcome this hunger by lighting up. Smoking also increases energy expenditure by stimulating the central nervous system. After quitting smoking , when the person craves a cigarette, often the first thing they reach for is usually something sweet to overcome this addiction. Sweets mean extra calories and extra weight !People who stop smoking gain an average of 3 kilos but this is lost over time usually.

MARRIAGE

After marriage , a couple's priorities can change and they both feel secure and satisfied. This can lead to less grooming and exercise and more relaxation timeA newly married couple may also rely alot on fast foods due to their busy lifestyle or try to please each other by cooking alot . More food and less exercise unfortunately means an additional few kilos.

STRESS

Increased stress levels can lead to weight gain and in some cases weight loss.Stress affects digestion , blood pressure , your sense of wellbeing and your immune system. This affects your energy levels so exercise is difficult and motivation starts to decline. Less energy leads us to being lethargic .
