Viktor&Rolf for Kids Exhibition

In an immersive fashion atelier, young visitors will craft their own fashion creations in the NGV's latest free children's exhibition Atelier: Viktor&Rolf for Kids, opening on 21 October. Providing an insight into the Dutch designers creative process, the exhibition will see children draw inspiration from their elaborate and avant-garde designs, creating bespoke accessories to take home with them.

Opening as part of the NGV's summer blockbuster Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists, the accompanying children's exhibition will highlight the Dutch duos' couture wedding dress designed for Her Royal Highness Princess Mabel van Oranje-Nassau for her wedding to Prince Friso of the Netherlands. The dress, delicately hand-crafted with dove-white satin is the result of 600 hours of work, and features a magnificent 3-metre train, adorned with 248 georgette silk bows, each symbolising enduring love.

Children will use a variety of materials, including strands of raffia and white crepe paper, in hands-on activities inspired by Viktor & Rolf's design codes which include bows, collars and elaborate ruffles.

Once adorned in their paper creations, kids are encouraged to stage their own fashion shoots in three black-and-white themed dioramas. The three dioramas are reflective of the motifs represented in Viktor & Rolfs work: a harlequin-themed space featuring contrasting elements and shapes, a room which reflects the designer's fascination with flowers, and a fairytale forest backdrop that pays homage to Viktor & Rolf's love of fantasy.

To coincide with the exhibition Atelier: Viktor&Rolf for Kids, NGV Kids has published an activity drawing book. In this original illustrated publication, readers are guided by Viktor & Rolf's pet dachshund, Little Swan, and learn about the designers' creative vision and spectacular fashion collections. Young readers will also have the opportunity to fill the activity book with their own creative fashion designs and illustrations.
