Variety Cycle Launch Event

As H.G. Wells once said, 'Every time I see an adult on a bicycle I no longer despair for the future of the human race", he would no doubt be heartened by the Variety Cycle, a new initiative to help kids in need, set to be launched with a gala fundraiser dinner at Doltone House on September 26th, 2013.

Given to such musings and his celebrated imagination, H G Wells would have been chuffed to see formally attired guests get on bikes to raise money for kids, at this very special event which will include a range of 'revolutionary" activities not normally associated with a black tie event.

On arrival guests will be greeted and given a ride along the wharf to the venue in an assortment of bikes including tricycles, doubles, tandems and rickshaws.  Then, in between their sumptuous three course meal and drinks, they will be invited to participate in a one minute exercise-bike challenge on stage to compete and see who can sprint the farthest.

There will also be an exceptional display of bikes from over the years and inspirational speakers including Matthew Cowdrey, OAM, Australia's most successful Paralympian ever who benefited from Variety's help in the past.

Even novel bicycle themed table centre pieces, reminiscent of spokes and gears will be available for purchase at the conclusion of this very special evening, which will be MC'd by the very enthusiastic Larry Emdur who said, 'This is going to be an incredible adventure, I'm really excited to be involved with such a special event . I have promised organisers I will not wear my Lycra bicycle shorts for my hosting duties at the gala dinner.

The entire evening is dedicated to promoting and enlisting participants for the inaugural Variety Cycle commencing March 22nd  2013.  Given that life's cycle can be kinder to some than others, Variety is asking people to get on their bikes to benefit kids in need.  While this extraordinary event will travel 3,716km kilometers over 26 days from Canberra, to Melbourne and Adelaide before finally arriving in Uluru, a variety of options are available to allow people to participate at a level to suit their skills and time availability, including one and two day legs.

Six core riders who have already signed on to complete the entire course will be attending the gala dinner to provide inspiration to others.
