Newcastle indie pop quartet Vacations launch into the brand new decade with 'Lavender', the latest single from their forthcoming 2nd studio album Forever In Bloom due for release in mid-2020.
The genesis of 'Lavender' came to founding member and front person Campbell Burns on Vacations' first European tour. Struck by a desire to encapsulate the feeling of this halcyon time for those back home, he explains, "I wished that my friends and family were there to experience it all as well. I tried with my old point and shoot camera, my iPhone, and Face Timing people with lousy reception, it never lived up to the reality. When I came home I knew that this back-and-forth was something I wanted to write about."
The resulting track, produced by Holy Holy's Oscar Dawson is stamped with the band's now trademark chiming guitar jangle, ebullient summertime bounce and wrapped up in Burns' engaging sonorous melancholy vocal. Not only capturing the emotion of those European memories but also serving as testament to the cohesion the band began to feel during this shared time on the road. As Campbell further describes,
"'Lavender' is a balancing act between creating a dreamy and nostalgic landscape that I want everyone to see, to experience it as we did, but also a personal testament to the friendships that were strengthened and dreams realised from those experiences."
'Lavender' introduces Vacations now well on the way their final form. A well-honed, keen-edged pop outfit, armed with a new album, a freshly inked label deal via Believe, booking through Select in Australia & NZ and Lullaby in the UK and Europe, along with a creative management team ready to capitalise on the experience and global audience the group have amassed in the proceeding few years.
Above all though, 'Lavender' represents the very moment that Vacations realised their own self-purpose and began believing that their now shared entity was something to embrace and truly fight for, a forging of bonds, steeling resolve for their future endeavour.
"There were all of these in-between moments when we weren't playing shows during our first time in Europe that solidified so much for us," Campbell concludes.
"We became closer as a band, and as friends, and realised that this was worth everything and worth pursuing."
