19-year-old singers-songwriter, Western Australian ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Earth Hour, Claire Clarke will be turning her lights off between 8.30-9.30 on Saturday 28th March, 2009.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007 and is an event where people around the globe will be switching off their lights for one hour. Australia emits around 570 million tones of greenhouse gases a year with 20 percent coming from households and 10 per cent coming from the commercial sector. “It is an event Australians should be proud of and a way for us to show the world out continuing leadership by reducing greenhouse emissions” says Claire. Earth Hour aims to reach 1 billion people in over 1,000 cities creating a global show of support for the worlds leaders to take strong action at the United National Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009.

Australias per capita emissions are 4.5 times higher than the global average and second only to the USA
