16 B-Boys. One Arena. One Red Bull BC One Champion.
In the heat of a disused power station in Soweto, South Africa plays host to sixteen of the world's best B-boys all vying to be the Red Bull BC One world champion. Turn It Loose is a feature documentary which follows this break dancing event through the eyes of six of its competitors, assembled from all corners of the globe.
Somewhere between movie and documentary, Turn It Loose captures the B-Boys' performance but also tells a story : six B-Boys from Africa, America or Asia, all united at the Red Bull BC One, an international one-to-one breakdance competition. "It's not only a film about the B-Boys, it's a film about the Boys", explains director Alastair Siddon. "They are not only dancers but people, concentrated and determined. These are things I tried to capture in my production by following them in their day-to-day life and watching their training."
From daily life to intense training, winning, losing and self-questioning, Turn It Loose reveals the essence of breakdance: determination. "That's what I noticed the most when I watched the film" explains the Japanese B-Boy Taisuke. "This film shows how we live, the conditions in which we grow and develop our art."
