Track 5 - Crazy

Meet the boys from Track 5, Verx, Ads & Krishool. Music flows from within them, and has from an early age. Demonstrating their natural abilities to express themselves through music, "music is such a powerful platform" Track 5 are no longer a rising star, but are shining. Let's talk to boys about their journey.

Interview

1. How did it feel to hear your song played on the airwaves?
Verx: It was surreal and exciting very much like Christmas Day when you're five.

2. Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?
Krishool: When getting signed to a record label I thought it would be like winning the lottery, but it is more like getting a bank loan and investing in your future.
Verx: Without going too much into it, there is more to the industry than what meets the public eye. There are many different facets to the industry.but I would need a good hour of your time to go into it J
Adz: Nope, I kinda always knew that it was going to be a hard slog, I think that people are given the wrong impression of the industry through the what's shown on the box.

3. Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?
Adz: We write our own songs, we wouldn't want it any other way.
Verx: We generally write from life experience, which covers the whole spectrum of relationships, break-ups, friendships, hardship, perceptions and so on.
Krishool: Ditto

4. What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?
Verx: I love a HUGE range of music including Dave Matthews Band, Silverchair, Jurassic 5, 112, Jodeci, Usher, Nickelback, Faith No More, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Pearl Jam and so on.
Krishool: Anything and everything
Adz: My collection is pretty huge, genre doesn't matter, just as long as it's good, so Eskimo Joe, OutKast, Gomez, Jason Mraz, Jet, Stevie Wonder and James Morrison to name a few.

5. What's next? Tour/Album/Single?
Verx: All the above! We are currently touring Victoria and NSW on weekends (we all still work full time L) doing shopping centres, schools and nightclubs. We have been promoting our debut single 'CRAZY' to as many people as possible. We will be releasing a second single later this year followed closely by our album, 'PURE MOTION'.
Adz: Yea, we love doing the live stuff so we're really looking forward to getting out there and doing some more shows interstate as well.

6. Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?
Verx: Probably the best thing about Track 5 is that we are a really tight unit. We have built this group from the ground up and have worked our butts off to get to where we are today but through all this we have become fantastic friends. Through our live shows, we have made a lot of fans and I think when you have complete strangers coming up to tell you how much they enjoy your music (and buy your cd J ) ..it makes it very easy to keep striving for success.
Adz: and because we have such a tight unit, if anyone does feel a little unmotivated you have the whole team to bring you back on track.

7. Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Verx: There is a lot of satisfaction in both areas. One thing that we try to do is to be able to perform our songs as good as we record them. We are working with a fantastic set of songs at the moment which makes it an absolute pleasure to perform AND record.
Krishool: I definitely love performing, being able to entertain people and bring smiles to their faces.
Adz: I think the studio can be a lot of hard work, but the end result is always gratifying, with a live performance there's always something that can go wrong, that makes it a lot more exciting. You can also get a better reaction from people when you actually sing them the song.

8. What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Verx: I always had an intrinsic motivation to be performer but I wasn't sure who, what and how I was going to go about it. My best mates also gave me the friendly nudge that I needed to get over my shyness and just go for it (thanks boyz! J )Krishool: It was my friends at school, I didn't really discover I could sing until High School.
Adz: I've always just wanted to do it, it's the audience that inspires me, if I can impress a few people in the audience then I feel happy. I've also had a great support from family and friends when I was growing up.

9. What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?
Verx: The biggest challenge that we face right now is getting radio rotation on major commercial stations. We believe we have a great song (and songs to come) but it is proving to be really hard to gain rotation. We are doing everything in our powers elsewhere to promote the single but radio is where you get mainstream attention and a huge audience.

10. What's a typical day like?
Verx: We all work or study full time, so after a full day's work, we generally get together to work on new material or head off to a gig. On our days off, we all do different things whether its socialising or keeping fit.

11. What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?
Verx: As much as I hating sounding cliché, I would have to say the journey of getting to where we are today all the things we have achieved, all the ups and downs..
Krishool: being able to sing every day of my life, performing for people and signing long-winded autographs
Adz: I'm with you Krish, I love singing and can't picture a future without it.

12. If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Verx & Adz: Josh Owen, one of the greatest rising artists this country has ever seen.
Krishool: Danielle Stearman

13. Are you single? What do you look for in a partner?
Adz: Yea, I'm single. I look for someone who's got a good sense of humour cause I'm pretty silly a lot of the time.
Krishool: Free agent for life here. I am pretty shallow, nice legs etc. Straight up though, for me to be serious about someone there would have to be some kind of more than physical connection going on.

Adz: I think you have to laugh a lot and follow your dreams as well.
