Tom Myers, previously known for his work with Australian band Papa vs Pretty, has today released his debut single 'The Great Unknown' from his brand-new self titled project.
'The Great Unknown' is the first release from a collection of songs Myers wrote and demoed in DIY hotel room recording setups across Europe and the USA during an 18-month touring period.
Collaborating with former PvP bandmate Gus Gardiner (bass, piano), 'The Great Unknown' is floaty but direct, melodic and rich with harmony. 'The Great Unknown' harks back to Myers' indie-rock roots and paints an honest landscape of the initial confusion of loss.
Myers has been performing in Australia and Internationally for over 10 years, and has toured extensively throughout his live drumming career working in bands for Jack River, Kim Churchill, Dean Lewis and Thelma Plum but felt compelled to step out from behind the drumkit and explore other avenues of his musicianship.
Myers will be donating 100% of profits from downloads through bandcamp (who are today waiving their fees to support artists) to Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT. Of the decision to donate profits from band camp Myers writes:
'Whilst I am over the moon to finally have music out, I realise the world is currently experiencing a deep sense of loss and uncertainty. Today bandcamp are waiving their admin fees and giving 100% back to the artists - subsequently I will then be donating 100% of funds to Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT, if you choose to stream 'The Great Unknown' on any other streaming platforms I ask you make a small donation to an indigenous organisation of your choosing.'
