The Wolfe Brothers No Sad Song National Tour

The Wolfe Brothers No Sad Song National Tour

It couldn't have been a bigger start to 2019 for The Wolfe Brothers. Now, after kicking it off in the most extraordinary 'dreams do come true' way with a sweeping win at the 2019 Golden Guitars, the Tassie country rockers have announced more touring dates as they embark on their No Sad Song national tour that will take them through to January 2020.

The year started with the band dominating the Australian Country Music Awards where they won Golden Guitars for not only Group Of The Year, Song Of The Year for the single Ain't Seen It Yet, and Contemporary Album Of The Year for Country Heart, but also the coveted Album Of The Year accolade. After 13 previous nominations in the Australian Country Music Awards over the last five years, it was a powerful moment to see the band's hard work come to fruition during their sixth visit to Tamworth.

It was evident those attending the Golden Guitars on the night were behind The Wolfe Brothers. There was a huge energy in the room as the band performed the title track Country Heart after taking out their final award. The roar of approval from the 4000-strong audience for each award The Wolfe Brothers won was a long-awaited sign that they were accepted by their peers and the Australian Country Music Industry as a whole, and that their hard-work was being recognised. What a way to start a year – and what a start to a tour!

"It took a while for it all to sink in," says lead singer Nick Wolfe. "A Golden Guitar win was high up on the bucket list we wrote up as a group way back before Australia's Got Talent. To win four in one night was surreal to all three of us!"

Guitarist Brodie Rainbird is equally blown away by the win. "All I know is that we have worked so hard over the years and the support we get from family and fans is what drives us," he says. "Without that support though the highs and the lows that we have been through as a band, I seriously doubt we would be talking about winning four Golden Guitars today."

The Wolfe Brothers are no overnight success story – their story is one that shows that hard work and determination can make even the biggest dreams a reality. For years they were weekend warriors playing the pubs and party scene around Tasmania, earning their stripes, with no real prospect of being noticed on the mainland. Then they went on Australia's Got Talent and won the hearts of the nation, securing second place in the series final. They were the first band to ever make the finals and the first act to ever get there playing original material. The mainland was sitting up and taking notice and The Wolfe Brothers were soon auditioning to tour with Lee Kernaghan. Lee hired them after playing the second song at that audition and The Wolfe Brothers have since played every show Lee has done over the last seven years – and they continue to do so – opening his shows and playing as part of his band. Fast forward and The Wolfe Brothers are now selling out their own headline shows around the country.

For Lee, it was no surprise The Wolfe Brothers would make all their dreams come true. "These boys are the best band I have ever played with," he says. "Not only are they world class musicians, they deliver their music from the heart and put 100 per cent effort into every performance."

The Wolfe Brothers' latest release is Country Heart, which is the band's fourth album and one they felt ready to take a big step with, buoyed by the huge success of their previous three releases. "We really wanted to do something different, something that would reach a wider audience and something to show that we have grown and matured as a band and as songwriters," says bassist Tom Wolfe. "We are very proud of this album and we feel that we achieved what we set out to do and to see it debut at #9 on the ARIA all genre chart was very satisfying and a great start to the next chapter for the band."

The Wolfe Brothers enlisted award-winning producer Matt Fell to produce their fourth studio album in his Sydney studio. "Matt was amazing to work with," says Brodie. "He is also a great musician and he really understood our need to do something different with this album. In the past we have always been a guitar driven band. This time we never picked up a guitar until we were two weeks into the recording. We took the time to work on the parts of every song. It is not a massive departure from the past Wolfe Brothers records, it is just different, and the response to the album has been incredibly encouraging for us."

Country Heart also earned the group an ARIA nomination for Best Country Album in 2018 and debuted on the ARIA Charts at #9. The first single Ain't Seen It Yet was also nominated as a finalist in the APRA Awards for Country Song Of The Year in 2019. All four of The Wolfe Brothers albums have entered the ARIA chart in the Top 20 all genre ARIA chart. The last two albums, Nothin' But Trouble and This Crazy Life, and this new release Country Heart, have all debuted on the ARIA Country Chart at #2.

The band spent the month of July in Nashville writing songs for their next album. During the writing trip they were invited to play at the Calgary Stampede in Canada to open for their mate Canadian country music star Gord Bamford, to a crowd of 6,000 people who gave the band a tremendous response throughout their hour-long set. Talks are now in progress for The Wolfe brothers to tour Canada with their own headline show next year.
