Once upon a time…
There was a girl named Kerri who loved books. Kerri was saddened by the demise of bookshops everywhere, and was concerned that many children would miss out on the serendipitous experience of entering a bookshop, picking up the book that catches their eye, and taking it home to treasure and read over and over again. It was this motivation that sparked Kerri's idea for the Itty Bitty Book Van, a whimsical travelling children's bookshop, the first of its kind in Australia.
In a world filled with electronic devices and increasing amounts of screen time, it's a pleasure to witness children's delight in discovering -Enid', the tiny vintage caravan bookshop. They giddily scan the shelves of colourful book covers, perhaps pausing to grab a cushion and listen along to the free story time session, whilst adults peruse the classic titles, rekindling fond memories from their own childhoods.
Enid is packed to her little rafters with a carefully curated inventory of childhood classics, favourites, picture books, early reader and themed titles. She also takes pride in stocking many beautifully written titles from smaller, independent publishers.
A visit to the Itty Bitty Book Van is about more than simply buying a book – it's an enchanting book experience catering to both the young and young at heart. So why not come along and experience the magic for yourself?
The Itty Bitty Book Van is the hobby-come-business venture of Kerri Bennett. Kerri has spent over a decade in publishing, marketing and sales. Now with a couple of eager little readers of her own, she runs the Itty Bitty Book Van.
The Itty Bitty Book Van is supported by librarians, literacy consultants and school principals, as well as a number of early childhood educators. The evolving stock is reviewed regularly by qualified childhood educators to ensure the inventory is relevant and appropriate for young readers.
