The Grandparent of the Year Award (GOTYA) has been designed to raise the profile of Grandparents in Australia by recognising the extraordinary contribution by a Grandparent to the family and the community.

This is the first National Award that will highlight all Australian Grandparents – the ones who bake cookies and Sunday Lunch, the ones who travel, the ones who babysit, the ones who have full‐time care of their Grandchildren, the ones who live interstate, the ones who live next door.

On Friday the 19th of September 2011 at an Adelaide Town Hall reception, the inaugural Grandparent Of The Year Award was presented by Adelaide's Lord Mayor, Michael Harbison to Denise Langton, co‐founder of Grandparents For Grandchildren SA Inc.
