The Doctor Blake Mysteries Costume Exhibition

Costumes from the popular TV series The Doctor Blake Mysteries go on show from 1 May to 9 June at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka in Ballarat.


The costumes include clothing items and accessories worn by leading characters: Doctor Lucien Blake, Jean Beazley, Mattie O'Brien and Chief Superintendent Matthew Lawson. Items on display include Doctor Blake's suits, Jean's -kitchen wear', police and nurses uniforms, and many more. Costumes on display were designed and sourced by renowned costume designer, Louise McCarthy.


'This is a unique opportunity for both fans of the Doctor Blake Mysteries and the costumes of the period to catch a glimpse of the creative process and the immense amount of detail that goes into the  show," says George Adams, Producer and Creator of The Doctor Blake Mysteries.


The exhibition also coincides with the Ballarat Heritage Weekend on Mother's Day Weekend 10 and 11 May. Special events for the Heritage Weekend only include a talk and Q & A with George Adams, a display of vintage cars from the series, a Doctor Blake marathon of back-to-back episodes screened both days (M rated) and fun children's activities. George Adams will be giving afternoon talks on Saturday 10 May and Sunday 11 May at 3.30pm at M.A.D.E.


The Doctor Blake Mysteries is set in 1959 starring Craig McLachlan and Nadine Garner. It tells the story of Doctor Lucien Blake, the town doctor and police surgeon. The series captures the essence of this time of change, as played out in the Australian regional town of Ballarat. Since its release the show has received numerous accolades and is the first Australian-made TV series to appear on the UK's BBC1, where it has quickly established a cult following. It has also received a Silver World Medal for Best Drama at the prestigious New York Festivals World's Best TV and Film 2014 Awards.
