Interview with Tarj Mavi, natural beauty expert and founder of La Mav

Question: What is La Mav?

Tarj Mavi: La Mav is Australia's first certified organic brand to incorporate anti-ageing bio-actives in its formulations. Bio-actives are remarkable natural compounds that have been scientifically proven to deliver results on cellular level, helping your skin heal from the inside out. La Mav is also proud to be certified toxic-free, cruelty free, environmentally conscious, and vegan.


Question: What inspired the creation of La Mav?

Tarj Mavi: After the birth of my second child, I developed post-partum melasma. Melasma was affecting my self-esteem and I was feeling extremely uncomfortable in my own skin. Sadly, when I started looking for solutions that were both effective and safe, I couldn't find anything. This is when I decided to take my knowledge and experience in the research field and create a line of products that are good for your skin, for the planet and for the generations to come.


Question: Can you tell us about Australia's first certified organic BB Crème?

Tarj Mavi: Our BB Crème is a unique multi-tasking product that every woman needs in her life. It nourishes, hydrates and protects the skin from free radicals, while providing light-to-medium coverage and a natural finish. The BB Crème also works as makeup base, gives the skin a radiant healthy glow, evens the complexion and hides imperfections. It's been formulated with the purest natural minerals, to allow the skin to breathe, whilst protecting it from UV damage.

Question: What's different about the La Mav brand?

Tarj Mavi: What makes La Mav different is our trademarked Three Tier Formula, where tier three consists of active constituents, followed by tier two – specialty oils, and finally tier one incorporating the base ingredients. Unlike La Mav, many natural and organic brands on the market use in their formulations only what we have in our tier one - base ingredients (herbal extracts, vitamins, hydrosols, carrier oils, essential oils etc).


Question: What products does La Mav currently have?

Tarj Mavi: At the moment we have three product lines: skin care, makeup and body care. We offer skin care products for different age groups and for people with different skin concerns – from acne and sensitivity, to ageing and pigmentation. What's best about our products is that they deliver visible, long-lasting results and help your skin achieve balance naturally.


Question: What made you change your career path?

Tarj Mavi: One of my favorite quotes is 'If you want to see the change, be the change." I have always been conscious about the impact our everyday choices have on our lives – from what we eat and drink, to what we wear and what we put on our skin. Even though I loved working in the research field, I've always had the feeling that I could do more, and contribute in my own way to making this world a better place. Creating La Mav was my way of telling modern women that they don't have to sacrifice their health for beauty.


Question: Can you talk about the research you conducted before creating La Mav?

Tarj Mavi: I started my research in 2002 and I spent the next five years collecting and assessing different natural ingredients. After in-depth analysis of data collected throughout the years, we formulated a line of potent skin-transforming products that were 100% free of harmful chemicals. Every single ingredient that goes into La Mav's products has been chosen on the basis of its properties to focus on specific concerns and provide targeted solutions. r


Question: What's next for you and La Mav?
Tarj Mavi: After the successful launch of the Bio-Active Primer and the new, lighter shade of our best-selling Organic BB Crème this year, we are excited to add a whole new range to our bodycare line, along with targeted products to expand our skincare range.
