Sydney's Summer Hotspots

Summer hedonists take note: get ready to party in January with summery BBQ feasts and after parties kicking off on January 1, and the month-long frivolities colliding with Australia Day celebrations at some of Sydney's favourite restaurants and bars.

For an ultimate New Year's Eve recovery session head to Fratelli Fresh, Munich Brauhaus, Bavarian Bier Café, The Bavarian, Saké Restaurant & Bar and El Camino Cantina on January 1, which happens to be National Bloody Mary Day, for a limited-edition, $10 Bloody Mary unique to each restaurant and available for just one week.

Or ease into 2017 on New Year's Day with a -Recovery Session Bloody Mary Combo' at Munich Brauhaus, Bavarian Bier Café, The Bavarian and Fratelli Fresh, where the celebrated Bloody Mary is paired with a dish for $25. At Fratelli, an Italian-inspired Bloody Mary will be paired with pizza, while a golden-crumbed schnitzel accompanies a pork crackling-dressed Bloody Mary at Munich Brauhaus, Bavarian Bier Café and The Bavarian.

Also on the first day of the New Year, Munich Brauhaus will turn up the recovery session dial with a house DJ pumping tunes all afternoon while next door at The Argyle, legendary soul and funk events team Soul of Sydney will lift the airwaves when they host their New Year's Day Special at the iconic Sydney venue.

Break NYE resolutions on National Spaghetti Day (January 4) at all Fratelli Fresh locations with unlimited Spaghetti Bolognese for 14.95, or with a glass of Fratelli Fresh wine or a selected beer for $19.95.

Recovery sessions don't mean the party is over. Munich Brauhaus, The Bavarian in Manly and Bavarian Bier Cafés in Bondi and Parramatta will turn up the summer vibes with the launch of the Bavarian Summer BBQ Series on January 1 from 2pm-6pm, which will run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the month.

These select venues will make the most of their outdoor settings, including beer gardens and beach views, and offer BBQ menu options paired with craft beers by Urban Craft Brewing Co. Lightly charred and smoky corn on the cob with lime and chipotle mayo complements the subtly sweet, mildly bitter, and full-bodied summer session lager, Sweet Caroline; a spicy bratwurst pairs well with the clean, malt character of Butcher's Bride Pale Ale; and BBQ chicken and vegetable skewers marry with the mild and satisfying Hop Dock Wheat Beer.

All Bavarian Bier Cafés, The Bavarians and Munich Brauhaus will help Sydneysiders cruise through the balmy summer weather with a Summer Schnapps Bellini Series, featuring $10 peach, strawberry, lychee, green apple and peach-flavoured Bellinis. Cider lovers won't be left out with Urban Craft Brewing Co's Good Pickin's Apple Cider transformed with an array of summer flavours, including strawberry, passionfruit, cherry and kiwi.

Meanwhile The Argyle has a jam-packed, three-week Summer Essentials program featuring headline DJs, themed parties, and courtyard activations. A full moon party featuring DJ KLP kicks things off on Friday, 13 January, followed by a morning yoga workshop with an organic juice bar and build your own salad station on Saturday, 14 January, a pool party in the iconic courtyard on Sunday, 15 January, and a Movie Under The Stars screening of The Beach on Monday, 16 January with pop-up food stalls and complimentary pop-corn.

On other dates the courtyard will be transformed into a Hawaiian luau party, with roving hula girl performers and spit roast pig, and a Bombay gin garden with customisable gin cocktail pitchers.

January's summer soirees culminate on Australia Day with a True Blue Australia Day Summer Party at The Bavarian, Bavarian Bier Café and Munich Brauhaus. Enjoy buckets of Urban Craft Brewing Co craft beers and myriad menu options, to the backdrop of the Triple J Hottest 100.

Saké will put a Japanese spin on the typical Aussie BBQ with a selection of robata dishes for $30 and $6 Blushing Geisha craft beers. Traditionalists can take advantage of a $99 Beef & Reef dish at The Cut Bar & Grill.
