It's that time of year again – Sydney Fish Market (SFM) is gearing up for the annual 36-Hour Seafood Marathon to take place from 5am Tuesday, 23 December, right through until 5pm Wednesday, 24 December (Christmas Eve).
100,000 shoppers are expected to purchase 600 tonnes of fresh seafood for their seafood Christmas spread over the two days. For the first time this year, shoppers can snap up the latest catch along with their Christmas ham now that celebrity butcher Anthony Puharich has confirmed opening a butcher on the Pyrmont site.
SFM is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the third largest seafood market in terms of variety in the world. Over the years SFM has become one of Sydney's regular tourists attractions and a renowned fresh seafood outlet amongst Australian chefs and restaurants.
