Sydney Championships Poker Tournament

The Star Sydney will play host to the annual Sydney Championships poker tournament from 28 July-10 August. There are eight events over the 14 day Sydney Championships schedule including the $3,000 buy-in Main Event running from 7 August-10 August.

Players will have the chance to compete with some of Sydney's best and take home a share of half a million dollars in prize money.

Professional poker player and back-to-back Australia-New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) Player of the Year, Tony Hachem is registered to compete in the Main Event from 7 August-10 August.

'There wasn't much awareness of poker in Australia 10 years ago so it's great to see the game evolve to the point where tournaments like Sydney Championships are taking place in our own backyard," says Tony.

The Star's General Manager of Table Games Operations, Hugh Fraser looks forward to welcoming players from all over Australia and internationally.

'The Championships is seeing guests travelling not only from interstate but also from overseas to take part in the tournament.

'Since The Star first offered poker to patrons over 10 years ago, we've continued to see a rise in the popularity of the game which is offered at The Star 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

'To accommodate for the increased demand, we've also introduced a new purpose built Poker Room which we look forward to showing off at the upcoming Sydney Championships," says Hugh.
