To support Indigenous Literacy Day:
-Purchase a book in a participating bookshop (listed at indigenousliteracyproject.org.au), and 5% or more of sales on the day will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Project (ILP)
- Participate in The Great Book Swap or other fundraising activities (as attached)
Under the patronage of Therese Rein, Indigenous Literacy Day is a partnership between The Fred Hollows Foundation and the Australian book industry that aims to address the Indigenous literacy crisis in remote communities in the Northern Territory, North-West New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, by raising $250,000 for books and much needed resources.
On Wednesday, 2 September 2009, school, bookshop, library and lecture events will be held in key locations around Australia with ambassadors David Malouf, Tara June Winch, Kaz Cooke, Sally Morgan, May O'Brien, Dr Anita Heiss, Andy Griffiths, Sam Wagan Watson, Josh Pyke and a host of many wonderful authors.
