Summernats 2017

The Street Machine Summernats has announced the music line up for it's big 30th birthday. Taking the main stage on Friday is chart-topping hip-hop act Drapht supported by urban duo Spit Syndicate. Saturday night opens with indie rockers Thirsty Merc performing their greatest hits, followed by Australia's favourite wildest rock'n'roll band Airbourne in their first Australian show since 2013.

The Street Machine Summernats, proudly supported by Rare Spares, sees over 100,000 punters from around Australia and all over the world descend on the nation's capital to witness a monstrous display of automotive culture, jam-packed with the hottest music entertainment and all round good times.

Friday night opens with Sydney hip-hop duo Spit Syndicate, one of the most dynamic urban acts in the country. With their fourth album to be released later this year, triple j favourite and ARIA nominees bring their explosive live show to Summernats, One half of the Spitters, Nick Lupi says 'If there's one thing we love it's a raucous crowd and we've been told the Summernats is pretty damn wild. We're keen for a big Friday night with our boy Drapht."

Drapht is an all time Aussie hop hop favourite with four smash albums, seven ARIA nominations and the 2011 ARIA for Best Urban Album. No stranger to the Nats stage, Drapht played at the Summernats Chrome Jubilee in 2012 and returns armed with a full live band to headline Friday night. On playing at the iconic Summernats event, Drapht says, 'I played Summernats 25 and it was a heap of fun. I'm looking forward to getting back there for the big 30 with the whole band. A fun loving interesting crowd and a one of a kind experience."

One of Australia's hardest working bands, Thirsty Merc has spent over a decade making music and there's plenty of gas left in the tank. Having just wrapped up a whirlwind tour around the country, the guys are gearing up to release a new album. Excited about their first appearance at Summernats, singer Rai Thistlethwayte says, 'The guys are all pretty pumped to hit the Nats. We're all Summernats virgins, but we've heard plenty of good things about the festival and it's cool to be part of their big thirtieth birthday."

Fun-loving, rip-roaring, hard-partying rock'n'roll band, Airbourne is the perfect fit for Summernats on Saturday night. The Nats have been trying to get Airbourne on the festival for seven years, and the organisers are thrilled that calendars have finally aligned. Airbourne are currently in the studio working on a new album due for release later this year. Their show at the Summernats is an all too rare opportunity for fans of this crazy bunch of blokes to see them in Australia. Lead guitarist, Dave Road told Street Machine Magazine this month, "We're bloody excited. We've all known about Summernats since we were growing up and it's a pleasure to be playing it. We haven't played Australia a lot over the last couple of years, so it's great to able to do that as our first show back."

Around 2,000 of Australia's most outstanding cars will join over 100,000 fans in a celebration of everything automotive when the largest car festival in the Southern Hemisphere hits Canberra on January 5 – 8, 2017.
