Young Australian entrepreneurs lead the recruitment market
Winner of Australia's Favourite Recruiter at the 2003 SEEK Annual Recruitment Awards and the 2002 Australian Achiever Award in the Employment Services category, 'Staff it' have attributed their success to their superior level of service and knowledge of the recruitment industry.
Young entrepreneurs Emma Brown, 24, and Gemma Kelly, 30, are founding partner and director, respectively, of Staff it. They recruit candidates in a range of industries including business and office support, communications, finance and accounting, hospitality and events, and contact centres and customer service.

Established by Gemma in 1996, Emma joined two years later. At the end of the 2003 financial year the company's turn over was in excess of $2 million. The company's turnover has been increasing steadily over the years with a jump from $400 000 to $1.2 million dollars in the third year of business. "Ultimately we are looking at building the value of the business to around $20M in the next 10 years and making a sizeable deposit on a commercial property," Gemma said.

Their success isn't only confined to the walls of the office; the women combine their investments and currently co-own four properties throughout Australia. "I started investing when I was 17, and bought my first property at 20," Emma said. "Since then, Gemma and I have bought another three properties and are now looking at acquiring another.

"It makes sense that we'd pool our funds to invest. We run our business together, and whilst we do have some separate investments, two salaries are better than one! Gemma is very proactive with searching for ways to use our money wisely and regularly acquires shares for the business and for our personal portfolios," Emma explained.

"Both Emma and I had an ambition to achieve financial freedom by the time Emma was 30," Gemma said, "We are well on the way by not living an overly extravagant lifestyle and investing as much as we can. The key has been to diversify our funds into several key investment classes and areas."

The company is 100% Australian owned and a member of the Recruitment and Consulting Services Association, which ensures the highest standard of ethics and professionalism. Staff it' are also a founding member of CareersMultiList, a network of Australian independently owned recruitment companies.
