Meet the Hermannsburg Potters
To mark the launch of the first major exhibition of the Hermannsburg Potters, Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids, the Hermannsburg Potters will be artists in residence, making their unique terracotta pots. The exhibition features 20 AFL-themed terracotta pots with players such as Cyril Rioli, Adam Goodes, Lewis Jetta and Curtly Hampton and moments from each team. Children and families are invited to meet the artists and get into the spirit of the AFL finals season by sharing stories about their favourite players with the Potters or decorate their own papier mache pot. FREE

Creative Encounters: Ceramics Workshop with Jessilla Rogers
Melbourne ceramicist Jessilla Rogers will lead young creatives in this crash course in hand-sculpting ceramic bowls. Over two workshops participants will learn to hand build in clay and then decorate their pieces. Participants will draw inspiration from the NGV collection and a new ceramic exhibition, Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids. Students $60 for two sessions, includes all materials.
Dates: Thursday stream  – 24 September and 1 October, Friday stream – 25 September and 2 October (2 sessions per course)

Draw a Dog with Kat 
Illustrator Kat Chadwick's whimsical drawings of crowns, palaces and royal pet dogs fill the pages of the kids' activity book, Catherine the Great: An Art Book for Kids. Join Kat in a fully supervised drawing workshop and make your own illustrations. Children $18.

Saturday Art Workshops
Over six sessions budding artists can really discover the NGV with this taster of the life of an artist. Each week participants learn about art through exploring many different areas of the NGV collection and temporary exhibitions such as The Horse and Nordic Cool. With all of that inspiration participants then express their ideas in informal group discussions and workshops using a variety of media including clay, paint and pencils. Fully supervised. Spaces are limited. Children $165.

Children's Exhibitions
Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids
Celebrating understanding and community through art and football, Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids will see the renowned indigenous art collective, the Hermannsburg Potters of the Northern Territory, create a series of twenty AFL-themed terracotta pots. The exhibition, which has been more than a year in the making, will also feature a full clay model of the historic Hermannsburg Mission church as well as a vibrant display of AFL paraphernalia, photography and footage. This will be the first major exhibition featuring the Hermannsburg Potters at the NGV.
Dates: 18 September – 10 April, closed Mondays in September. Open daily from October.

Open House: Tromarama for Kids
An immersive house of fun, this dedicated kids'  exhibition features an upside-down dining room with a dancefloor on the -ceiling', mini film studios to make your very own stop-motion animation videos and music video artworks to dance to created by Indonesian art collective Tromarama. FREE

Bunyips and Dragons: Australian Children's Book Illustration
Drawings, paintings and illustrations from some of the most recognisable and loved children's books by illustrators such as Shaun Tan and Graeme Base are on display in this free exhibition for children and adults. The exhibition also features large-scale original illustrations by authors such as Bob Graham (Greetings from Sandy Beach), Leigh Hobbs (Old Tom), Terry Denton (A Teddy Bear's Picnic) and more than 50 other illustrators. FREE
