Leaders in the racing industry's environmental and innovation stakes, Sydney Turf Club (STC) is the first race club in the world to host a carbon neutral raceday. Heralded a success, the carbon neutral 'Green Day at the Gardens' race meeting has become a permanent fixture on STC's racing calendar and will be held again this year on February 6th at Rosehill Gardens racecourse.
Green Day is not the only way STC is reducing its environmental 'hoof print'. Since establishing the Club's Eco Committee, STC has reduced its water consumption at Canterbury Park alone by 3,000kL a month - enough to fill more than one Olympic swimming pool. In October last year an air-conditioning chilled water compressor was installed utilising non ozone depleting refrigerant gas resulting in decreased energy costs to produce chilled water whilst complying with Kyoto Protocols.
