Paint The Township Red At Sovereign Hill These School Holidays

Step back in time as Sovereign Hill celebrates summer fun with a full-program of special school holiday activities, from seeing the famous Redcoat soldiers in action to panning for real gold.  Running from Boxing Day until 26th January, families can strike it rich, and discover what's made Sovereign Hill the 2016 RACV People's Choice for Favourite Regional Attraction and Victoria's Major Tourist Attraction for the third year running.

During the holidays, it's gold fever! Visitors can witness a $150,000 gold pour, pan for real gold, and strike it rich just like the ladies and gents of the goldfields.  Main Street come alive with all of the outdoor museum's action-packed activities, including gold panning, coach rides, mine tours, bowling, candlemaking, lolly making, wheelwright demonstrations, and more.

Some of the special school holiday activity highlights include:

Hands-on activities: Help create your very own peg doll toys or colour in a Redcoat Soldier and his family.

Redcoats: See the Redcoat Soldiers arrive ceremoniously into Main Street, and fire their rifles from the balcony of the Victoria Theatre each day at 1.30pm.

Redcoat Musket Firing demonstration: The sun did not set upon the British Empire of the 1800s – and they needed their army to maintain and protect it. Find out whether you have what it takes to be a British Redcoat soldier in the 1850s. Learn how soldiers would load and fire an Enfield rifle. 11.30am daily in Main Street.

Lola Montez Spider Dance: Lola Montez was notorious for her behavior, attitude and most of all her performing. So what was all the fuss about? Why not come and see for yourself? This theatre performance takes place at 2.15pm daily in the Victoria Theatre.

Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime: The proprietors of the Victoria Theatre are staging -Jack & the Beanstalk', a good old-fashioned Christmas pantomime where you can boo the villain, cheer the hero and rest assured that, in the end, good always triumphs and everyone lives happily ever after. Be warned, it's all very, very silly! Daily at the Victoria Theatre at 2.15pm.

-Was Marrying a Soldier worth it? Performance: Marrying a soldier may have sounded glamorous for a young woman on the goldfields but was it really all that easy? Hear some of the trials and tribulations facing young women who had fallen in love with Her Majesty's Soldiers and help her decide if she should follow her heart. Daily at 12 noon at the Victoria Theatre.

Visitors can also join in singing songs of the goldfields with -Men O' The Hill – Army Life Songs' at the Victoria Theatre each day at 12.45pm, and -Music of the Goldfields – Soldier's Songs' daily at 4.30pm.
