In 1927, unmarried Meredith (Miranda Otto), accompanies her uncle, Wadsworth (Barry Otto) to the isolated island of South Solitary where Wadsworth has been appointed lighthouse keeper. Bad weather and misadventure leave Meredith marooned with only the sullen and withdrawn assistant keeper Fleet (Marton Csokas) to keep her company.
