Robby X Close To Me Interview

Songstress Robby X is the full package. The stunning and gifted musician is a talented songwriter whose beautiful voice is one that would make even the harshest music critic sit up and listen. The wife of country star Lee Kernaghan, Robby X recently stepped into the spotlight with the release of her debut long-player Obsession, and it is evident the Queensland-based singer is set to shine. As she gets ready to celebrate her 49th birthday, the vivacious Robby is releasing her latest single Close To Me.

Close To Me is the perfect second single for this captivating artist. It is an apt representation of her songwriting nuance and is personal, honest and spiritual. Robby is quickly gaining the reputation for the strength of her songwriting and the way she embodies emotions and story behind the song, ensuring that her tracks resonate with audiences.

'Close To Me is a song about enduring love and feeling the presence and energy of that special someone, even after they have moved on," she says. 'I wanted the songs on Obsession to take people on a journey. There are various themes about life and love and some of the songs are quiet sensual. It was the right time of my life to focus on an album, focus on where I am as a woman and express that in music."

The enchanting clip for Close To Me is also close to Robby's heart. The majority of the clip was filmed on Currumbin Beach where she grew up. She says she learned to swim and surf at the beach, and even shared her first kiss there. In watching the video, it is quickly evident that Robby was meant for the music world. She is comfortable within her skin, her music is strong and passionate.

It has been a labour of love working on her solo material, a project that was more than half a decade in the making. With two teenage sons, Robby has devoted her life to her family since she met husband Lee in the late 1990s. Although she always knew she had an album in her, it was important for the vibrant songstress to wait for the right time.

'In setting out to make Obsession I had to rediscover who I am and get to know myself again as an artist," says Robby. 'I also had to get my fitness back. Making an album requires a lot of energy and general fitness is paramount particularly as a singer. I'm so grateful that I've had the loving support of Lee and our boys Jet and Rock, to help me reach for my dreams."

Lee says he is thrilled that it is now Robby's turn in the spotlight and he couldn't be more proud. 'I'm a huge fan of what she does," he says. 'This album is really just the beginning, she's exceptionally talented and has got a lot of light to shine."

Robby X released her debut album Obsession late 2014. Within the first week of its release, it cracked the iTunes Top 30 pop album chart. It received rave reviews across the board, earning the talented singer-songwriter well-deserved acclaim. The album featured in top releases lists for 2014 and her debut single, Never Wanna Let You Go, received impressive traction on radio around Australia.

A proud friend of the McGrath Foundation, Robby X continues to spread the message about being breast aware and the importance of regular checks.

Robby X's new single Close To Me is released to radio by Universal Music Australia on Friday 2nd October 2015. Check out the video to Close To Me https://youtu.be/JFCTdKePlBE

Question: Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Robby X: It's the same whichever industry you are in, if you are passionate about what you do, then you are bound to succeed. Pre-conceived ideas create boundaries so I choose to focus on possibilities instead.
