Rescue, the new temporary exhibition at Scienceworks, teaches vital safety messages, while also showcasing how developments in medical, communication and engineering technologies are being applied in real-life search and rescue situations.
'Developments in science mean that rescue technology is changing rapidly, and is being applied in increasingly sophisticated ways," Dr Nurin Veis, Manager of Scienceworks, said. 'Rescue shows how our emergency services teams are using this contemporary technology in innovative ways to save people's lives across Australia every day."
Rescue teaches children how they can keep themselves and others safe through a series of dramatic interactive experiences and simulated rescue environments.
Interactive experiences in Rescue include:
Manipulating infra-red cameras on a full-size helicopter, to search for a lost hiker
Riding a jet-ski, in the hope of locating a swimmer washed out to sea
Navigating your way out of a smoke-filled room
The Rescue exhibition is recommended for families and is linked to the Victorian primary and secondary curriculum.
