Orbit, The Lost Property Rules and 1001 Nights

Nothing on TV fit for kids? Is the iPad burnt out? Stuck for ideas on how to keep the kids entertained these school holidays? Queensland Theatre Company (QTC) has the answer, with three exciting new plays at The GreenHouse, all for kids and families, all live and all fantastic: Orbit, The Lost Property Rules and 1001 Nights.

Orbit, written by David Burton and QTC's Senior Youth Ensemble, opens on 28 June and is a science fiction adventure about 20 young people, of which two will be chosen to carry on humanity's bright future on planet Mars. The teenagers must compete in a series of gruelling tests, deciding their best strategies for survival. Will they form an alliance or go it alone? Admit their weaknesses or cover them up at all costs? Orbit, a dynamic collaboration between QTC's Senior Youth Ensemble and The Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe is exciting theatre for ages 12 and up that explores ambition, love, success and growing up, told with unique style and technology.

If sci-fi's not quite your kid's thing, then perhaps the quirky story of two young girls about to embark on an exciting and scary adventure is more suited. The Lost Property Rules, written by acclaimed Brisbane playwright Matthew Ryan runs from 2 July and is a playful physical performance for 8 to 12 year olds using puppetry and object theatre to bring to life the story of two young girls about to face two of the most daunting moments in a young person's life: moving house and moving schools.

Space and puppetry covered, the next option has magic and mystery! 1001 Nights, a play that explores the exotic adventures of Aladdin, Ali Baba and Sinbad, is created with Queensland Music Festival and in association with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre opening 18 July. Backed by the authentic sounds of traditional instruments including the oud, the dohol and the kamanche, 1001 Nights is an energetic and enchanting show that embraces Zen Zen Zo's legendary physicality.
