Psychic Kids

Something very interesting is happening. Children are becoming more intuitive, more psychic. While there have always been a handful of children who have premonitions, can see those who have passed over, or have 'imaginary' friends, there are more of these children around now. Life can be hard for these children, unless they have adults who will listen and who understand these things.

In Psychic Kids Sue Bishop looks at highly gifted psychic children who talk with deceased grandparents and play with children in the spirit world, who have past life recall, see angels and auras, have a healing gift or can pick up on what has happened in places years before they were born. In this rich collection of real life stories, Sue explores these topics and more, giving the reader fascinating insights into what is really going on with these children. She also offers good advice on how to deal with these situations should you have one of these remarkable children in your life.

Sue Bishop is one of Australia's top psychic intuitives appearing regularly in the media, at the Mind Body Spirit Festival, in the Foxtel documentary, 'Everyone's a Psychic', as well as Psychic Live shows where she entertains audiences with her insights.

Interview with Sue Bishop

Question: What inspired you to write Psychic Kids?

Sue Bishop: I was a psychic kid myself so it made sense to write about a topic close to my heart. My kids are also psychic and being in a position to help them made all the difference to them when they saw things beyond the everyday. But a lot of psychic kids don't have this kind of support because their parents don't understand what it means to be psychic. When I was young this gift wasn't appreciated or encouraged, in fact people were uncomfortable with the idea that their child could see and hear things that they couldn't. But it doesn't have to be like this. I wrote Psychic Kids to help parents understand their kids psychic gifts, to look at the types of challenges they might meet, and how to support and nourish their child's incredible gift. And, that is the most important point - it is a gift.

Question: How did you go about speaking with the highly gifted psychic children?

Sue Bishop: I interviewed some of the kids themselves so I could get their experience in their own words. Others I spoke to their parents who recounted their psychic kids experiences. It was a cathartic process because I was able to help the parents understand their child's ability as well as give them tips on how to work on their own innate psychic ability so they could keep up with their psychic kid.

Question: Why do you believe children are becoming more intuitive?

Sue Bishop: I believe that we have always been psychic but most of us don't know it, or know how to harness this gift. So the question is why is this current generation more intuitive that previous. I feel it's because it we evolve. Our consciousness evolves, our collective beliefs and attitudes change with time and we have reached a stage where we're ready to and embrace being psychic. So kids today are born to explore and develop their psychic abilities because we are ready for it. Our society is ready to have skills like clairvoyance and telepathy can become a part of everyday life.

When I began teaching metaphysics (psychic, spiritual and personal development) we weren't as ready. People were still reserved about psychics but now we've become part of the mainstream. People are becoming much more comfortable about psychics; in fact many of my clients are business people. We're not labelled 'weird' anymore. Twenty years ago only a small amount of people went to see mediums, today we have TV shows with a medium performing in front of live audiences. This shows how much we have changed and evolved.

Question: How important is it for parents to be supportive and understanding of the psychic abilities of their children?

Sue Bishop: It is very important because it will make the difference between having a confident child who works with their psychic abilities, or having a confused child who either has to suppress their abilities or even questioning their reality. When kids get a nod of approval and encouragement to work with their psychic gift that feel that their abilities are perfectly natural and they accept that part of them. Kids who are told that they are 'imagining things', or, 'don't talk about that kind of stuff, people will think that you are crazy,' will doubt themselves and can end up blocking their gifts. I have a chapter in Psychic Kids that gives tips to parents on how they can support and understand their child's gift.

Question: Can you explain what an aura is?

Sue Bishop: The aura is your soul. It is a bioplasmic energy field that surrounds and permeates the physical body. It is made up of four luminous bodies - the spiritual, mental, emotional and etheric body - that contains the entire blueprint of your life. It is that part of you that is eternal. A nice way of looking at it is to say that the aura (soul) driver of the car. The car is your physical body. You see the soul can live without a body, but your body can't live without your soul.

By looking at the colours of the aura you can tell what is happening for someone. For example if there is a lot of pink close to the etheric body then this person wants to be loved. But if you see pink in the spiritual body then this person is giving out a lot of love. You can even do a psychic reading by touching an aura - you can see the past, present and future.

Question: Are you able to provide a case study, from the book?

Sue Bishop: Yes, I would love to. Here is a chapter called, 'Poppy's Here'. Poppy's Here
Your psychic child will surprise you with their spontaneous insights which can happen anytime, anywhere. It is one of their most endearing qualities. You have probably already noticed they're very responsive to what's going on around them and don't always question it especially if it's something 'out there'. This can be anything from seeing the spirit of a loved one walking around the house to what's going to happen to you next week. Young Children will take psychic impressions on board and run with them.

Fiona's new bookshelf arrived a few days after she moved into her house. While her two-year-old daughter Callie was sleeping, Fiona grabbed the opportunity to pull out a box of precious ornaments from storage and began placing them on the bookshelf. She put an unattractive, but sentimental, 'Hole In One' golf trophy belonging to her deceased father at the back of the shelf, behind some family photo's. The trophy had actually been in storage for eighteen months.

Later on in the day Fiona walked into the family room and noticed Callie talking to herself and staring up at the ceiling.
'Who are you talking to?' Fiona asked.
"Poppy,' she said. Callie had never met her grandfather. He died five years before she was born.
'What does Poppy look like?' questioned Fiona.
'He has hair on his face, mummy.' she replied, still looking up at the ceiling.
'What colour is it?'
'It's orange and has silver stripes,' she replied immediately.

Fiona quickly scanned the assortment of family pictures on the bookshelf. The only photos of Poppy were in black and white, or taken when he was younger and had a dark beard. There was no way Callie could know his beard had turned reddish and grey as he aged.

'What is he wearing?' she inquired.
'He's got a small red lion on the top of his shirt,' replied Callie.
This detail caught Fiona's attention. Her father always wore a Holden shirt with a red lion motif at the front when he played golf.
'Poppy says he likes having his trophy out,' said Callie, smiling.

Fiona was blown away by that bit. Callie had never seen it before; she didn't even know what a trophy was. Fiona didn't think Callie could even see it, given the height and where it was placed. This small piece of information was enough to validate what Callie was saying. She couldn't have made it up these details.

'Where do you see Poppy?' asked Fiona. 'Point to him for me.'
'He's floating, up there,' Callie said pointing to the space between the book shelf and the ceiling. 'Can you see him? He's smiling at me mummy, and doing that thing with his eye.'

Callie tried to mimic the wink that she saw her Poppy doing. It was his personal calling card. When Fiona was growing up, he would express his pleasure in her behaviour by smiling and giving her an exaggerated wink with his right eye.

Fiona felt a warm, loving feeling wash over her. Her dad's visit to her new home suggested he was happy with the direction she was taking with her life. Even though Fiona couldn't see her father's spirit, she knew Callie was telling her the truth. Fiona is a school teacher and is sensible, grounded and sceptical. While she is the 'I'll believe it when I see it' type of person, she is open-minded and believes in spirits.'Callie described dad perfectly,' Fiona told me. 'And how could she know how important that trophy was to him? I knew this wasn't an imaginary friend. I know this sort of stuff can happen.

Fiona recalled one psychic experience she had when she first met my ex-husband Wayne's family. 'I saw my ex grandfather-in-law's Spirit and I was wondering why my ex-husband's family weren't introducing me to the man standing in a doorway off the hallway. And I couldn't understand why he didn't come into the room to join them. Wayne's mother came up to me and asked, "What are you looking at?" Not, wanting to sound crazy, I said nothing.'

But when she persisted Fiona finally said, 'The old man.'
'What does he look like?' asked Wayne's mother.
'Mid height, thin, hunched shoulders, blue uniform, bushy eyebrows,' replied Fiona. 'Oh, yes, he's also frowning.' Then he disappeared.
'Yes, that'll be him,' Wayne's mother told Fiona. 'That's my father.'
She walked into the kitchen and returned with a photo, which she immediately recognised as the man she had seen.
'That was a real eye opener,' she admitted.
Since Fiona had this kind of experience herself, she was definitely open to listening to Callie. Little Callie is lucky to have this loving support. Sadly, many parents dismiss these kinds of situations because they're unnerved or because they're trying to find a logical explanation. This can be hurtful, shaming or confusing for a small child.

Perhaps you could meet your child half way by learning how to finetune your own sixth sense? This way you can both be on the same page.

All you need to do is to re-awaken what lies dormant within you. You had psychic abilities as an infant, but one day you stopped these abilities and started relying on the senses of taste, touch, sight, sound and smell to guide you instead. Why did this happen? There are a lot of reasons why you can end up losing touch with your psychic ability. It could have been because it was never encouraged by your parents. Or perhaps you were educated to favour logic over intuition? Now, you have the opportunity to do something about it. You can start to stimulate your psychic abilities by trusting in your gut feelings. You may just be surprised at what happens.
