A pinnacle of Australian luxury accommodation and hospitality is open after a two and a half year hiatus. Pretty Beach House, the four-pavilion hideaway, has been fully restored offering a unique travel destination perched on a seven and a half acre promontory of the Bouddi National Park and Broken Bay, just 90 minutes by car from Sydney, Australia's gateway airport or a scenic 20 minute seaplane ride from Sydney Harbour.

Surrounded by ancient angophora forests and picture perfect waterways, the property was a meeting place for the indigenous community and owners of the land, the Darkinjung tribe. The property is home to three pieces of Aboriginal rock art that have been dated at 8,000 – 10,000 years old.

All the elements of the Pretty Beach rebuild have come together in perfect synergy. Every aspect of the property has a story, weaving together seamlessly with no detail overlooked.

Under the direction of hoteliers Karina and Brian Barry of Bells at Killcare, Sydney interior designer Michelle Leslie has lead the restoration, achieving the right balance between relaxed and impeccable. Together with a carefully selected team of craftsmen and highly skilled artisans, Leslie has created an extraordinary and unique property that both reflects and supports its local environment.

As guests climb the winding escarpment, they enter the mass of angophoras and arrive at the Porte Cochere to be met by enormous yellow-gold sandstone pylons that lead the way to the entrance of The Main House. Guest will immediately take in the cascading views down to the sparkling bay waters through the large floor to ceiling windows, which open out onto the pool decks from a library and sitting area.

The welcoming common area houses Stefano Manfredi's custom designed, open plan Italianate Ambach kitchen. The hexagonal area is dramatic and designed for conviviality around a central bar area, hand forged from brass and Italian black granite bench tops. Guests can spill to an outdoor lounge area and fire pit that looks directly onto large boulder rocks with ancient indigenous rock carvings. The Main House has been reconfigured to optimise the incredible views and reinstated to its original character. Leslie sourced decommissioned railway timber pylons which originally supported the railway between Theebine to Kingaroy Bridge, to form the structure of the new interior. The posts have been shaped by hand with chisels and adze tools and darkened with the oil creosote.

Custom crafted mud bricks made in the Southern Highlands add new warmth whilst the striking modern pendant lights by Christopher Boots blend effortlessly.  Sandstone from a local quarry, and prolific throughout the native coastal landscape, can be admired in the artistry of the open fireplace, the flooring throughout the atrium dining room and extensively around the exterior of the main house and pool deck.

Now with four private pavilions, three freestanding and one penthouse, Pretty Beach House can sleep 8 people at any one time. The pavilions have names that describe their best feature; Treetops, Bayview, Hideaway and The Retreat (two stories) and all have views of the angophoras, across a dramatic escarpment and down to the sparkling bay waters of Pretty Beach.

Each pavilion has a generous king bedroom, separate dressing room, deluxe bathroom, open-plan sitting area and a fully stocked bar. Colours and textures of the surrounding landscape inspire interiors and furnishings. The Retreat, Hideaway and Bayview open out onto a private deck with a day bed and their own plunge pool.

Leslie has designed and styled the interiors, sourcing fittings and furniture working together to create what she calls a layered, tactile experience. Every aspect of Pretty Beach House reflects a love of the authentic and the original.  

The atrium dining room features fine handcrafted table linens from the inimitable Italian house of Busatti linens and textiles, who also supplied the exquisite beddings. The dining experience and table top illustrate the perfect marriage between the rustic and the refined.  With renowned restaurateurs Stefano Manfredi and Julie Manfredi Hughes at the helm, guests will dine from hand made rustic pottery dishes and plate ware from Manfredi's friend and artisan potter Leno Alvarez of Hill End and the finest white French porcelain Limoges dinnerware from Bernardaud. 

A stay at Pretty Beach House is designed to delight all the senses and sensibilities, with original artworks by Arthur Boyd, Sidney Nolan and John Olsen on display to compliment the archetypal Australian setting. Stefano Manfredi has curated over 100 hours of playlists for guests to enjoy during their stay. A passion of his outside of the kitchen, the music selection has been chosen to mesh with guests' any mood with playlists titled Soul, Roots and Blues, Rock, Italian Singers, World Music, Surf Music and more. Manfredi has also curated the vinyl record collection and video library available in each pavilion.

The property also now includes a beautiful purpose built day spa for in-house guests, complete with couples massage tables and pure Australian skincare by LITYA, a perfect complement to a guided native bush walk or mountain bike ride through the many coastal Bouddi National Park walking and riding trails. 

This luxurious and quintessentially Australian experience is all inclusive from $1,000 per person per night, an effortless destination for both International and local travellers alike.  All bookings require a minimum stay of two nights.
