Perfect Match 2015

Perfect Match 2015

Showcasing Sydney's Inner West for the artistic hub that it is, Perfect Match returns for it's second year as Australia's most collaborative contemporary street art initiative, running 31 July – 1 August, 2015.

Featuring internationally known artists such as local hero Sid Tapia, Fintan Magee who has just returned from a residency in Mexico, artist/photographer/musician Ears, Sydney's answer to Banksy - Capiche and more, Marrickville Council is playing cupid once again through partnering   residents, property owners and artists to transform walls into works of bold and celebratory art curated by, and enjoyed with, the community.

Marrickville Council invited local property owners to find their Perfect Match by nominating their wall to be transformed by an artist of their choice. The artists will commence their commissions from 20 July and once completed, Perfect Match will celebrate the 22 new works alongside a retrospective of some of the best existing street art across the inner west. Artists, Esem Projects, have also joined the program to create Proud Tower, a site specific illumination project to celebrate the 50th Birthday of the Inner West icon, the Petersham Water Tower. The initiative is supported by Sydney Water, highlighting the history, engineering and people who built Petersham Water Tower and its importance to inner west heritage, lifestyle and the future.

From the enormous work by Birdhat to open the new Victoria and Hobbs Café in Lewisham, to Art of Wall's playful homage to the JETS and the inner west's mesh of sport and art, a Jumboist masterpiece at the Asylum Seekers Centre to the Camelot Lounge's site specific work by Hugues SineuxPerfect Match is a celebration of collaboration, art, innovation and public  places.

Marrickville Council has been the leading supporter of street art in Australia for the past 20 years and is the centre of independent arts with the highest number of arts and cultural workers than any other area in NSW.

'Perfect match is a unique council initiative tackling unwanted graffiti by fostering legitimate creative expression and art in Marrickville's unique public places," says Mark Gardiner, Mayor of Marrickville.
