The countdown is on - it's just over three months to go until Brisbane's beloved Paniyiri Greek Festival takes over the city in a cacophony of dance, food, cooking and celebrations. It's simply Brisbane's most fantastic festival and this year will extend over 10 days, with the famous finale weekend May 24 and 25 (#paniyiri2014).
Based at the famous Greek Club and Musgrave Park in West End and South Bank, 2014 marking a whopping 38 years of honey puff eating, Zorba dancing, plate smashing, bouzouki playing and Greek cooking secret sharing; all part of the essence of Paniyiri!
It all began in 1976 when a group of passionate Greek Australians decided that what this city needed was a journey of discovery. They dreamt of bringing the tastes, sights, sounds and atmosphere of Greece to the streets of Brisbane and that's exactly what they did. Fast forward to 2014, and this kaleidoscopic cultural explosion is now legendary with over 50,000 Greeks and honorary Greeks flocking to Musgrave Park, South Brisbane every year for the annual Paniyiri Greek Festival. This year, Paniyiri will be held on Saturday May 24 and Sunday May 25, making it the longest running cultural festival in Queensland and the longest running Greek festival in Australia!
