The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS) will bring two world-renowned experts to Australia later this month to reveal plans for the largest ever release of ex-captive orangutans back into the wild.
A fundraising target of $150,000 has been set by BOS Australia to purchase ten quarantine enclosures for the release program which will allow the first 24 orangutans to have vet checks, radio tracking implants, DNA testing and be quarantined for up to a month before being released into the wild as the first colony.
Next year a total of 108 rehabilitated organgutans will be released back to their natural habitat - with a long term plan to release the majority of over 800 animals that BOS currently cares for.
Funds raised from tickets sold to attend the public event will go toward purchasing the quarantine cages needed for the release program.
