One Girl's 'Do It In A Dress' Campaign

11th October is International Day of The Girl, and Aussie charity One Girl is calling all Australians to complete challenges in school dresses to raise awareness and much needed funds, enabling women and girls in Sierra Leone to get an education and break the poverty cycle.

One Girl's -Do It In A Dress' campaign is a response to an urgent crisis: Not only are there 60 million girls globally not in school, but some of the most disadvantaged girls – in Sierra Leone - are more likely to be sexually assaulted than attend high school.

This is not just a campaign, but a global movement, launched by two humble young Melbourne entrepreneurs, Chantelle Baxter and David Dixon that saw this crisis as an opportunity to make a real difference by tackling head-on the serious issue of the disempowerment of women and girls in Sierra Leone through a lack of access to education – and have a lot of fun doing it.

Last year saw over 700 people all over the world -Do It In A Dress', raising more than $270,000 to send girls in Sierra Leone to school. This year, One Girl is upping the ante – aiming to raise $500,000 to empower over 5,000 of these girls to become educated girls, women and mothers.

Funds raised provide girls with access to education through scholarships, school rehabilitation and the delivery of biodegradable, culturally appropriate sanitary pads through a network of female entrepreneurs and school systems.
