From the Nutrimetics Beauty Lab comes another remarkable innovation: Brighten. The move away from sun tanning has led to a renewed appreciation for delicately light, luminous skin. Pale skin has been prized in eastern cultures for thousands of years but is a relatively new concept to the West, especially in traditionally sun-loving countries like Australia.

In researching and developing the Brighten range Nutrimetics discovered Lotusine, a potent complex created by, and exclusive to, the Nutrimetics Beauty Lab. Lotusine is clinically proven to help even skin tone and reduce the appearance of pigmentation in two ways:

Evens and brightens skin tone by slowly and evenly helping to slow the production of melanin

Minimises the apperance of exiting skin pigmentation by reducing the rate of which the skin's melanin oxidises (the process of skin darkening when exposed to sunlight)

Step 1- Cleansing

Brighten Purifying Cleansing Gel is a foaming gel cleanser that thoroughly cleanses the skin whilst maintaining the skin's moisture balance. The cleansing gel acts to rinse away lacklustre skin, while Vitamins C and E condition and hydrate, revealing a perfectly purified and sparkling complexion.

To Use: Gently massage gel onto damp face and throat morning and night. Rinse well.

Step 2- Exfoliating

Brighten Complexion Refiner is a uniquely textured rice powder to crème formulation that provides a light, cleansing exfoliation. Suitable for all ages and skin types, seeking a brighter, lighter skin tone, it is gentle enough to use daily to uncover a brighter, fresher, more luminous complexion.

To Use: Sprinkle powder to the size of a 20 cent piece into palm and add a few drops of water to make a creamy paste. Massage into the face and throat and rinse thoroughly. Follow with Brighten Clarifying Toning Lotion.

Step 3-Toning

Flush impurities from the pores, firm the skin and prepare it for optimal moisture absorption with the Brighten Clarifying Toning Lotion. This refreshing toning milk uses Grapefruit Extract to purify, firm and clarify the skin, and Lime Blossom Extract to tone pores.

To Use: Use Brighten Clarifying Toning Lotion morning and evening, to remove the last traces of make-up and impurities, and prepare the skin for moisture absorption. After cleansing with Brighten Purifying Cleansing Lotion, dampen a cotton pad with the toning lotion and sweep gently over face and throat in an upward and outward motion.

Step 4- Moisurising

Brighten Moisturising Crème SPF 15 is a light moisturising crème rich in Lotusine to brighten and lighten skin tone. In addition, the crème is enriched with light-reflecting particles that provide a subtle, luminous glow to the skin, while SPF 15 provides protecting against future skin ageing and hyperpigmentation caused by exposure to UV light.

To Use: In the morning, after cleansing and toning, apply a small amount to the face and throat, using the accompanying spatula. Massage in until completely absorbed.

Step 5- Brighten

A high performance skin brightening serum, Brighten Brightening Serum is enriched with a high concentration of Lotusine to even out and refresh skin tone and diminish the appearance of pigmentation while you sleep. The Brightening Serum is proven to reduce the apperance of pigmentation on average by 50% and brighten skin tone on average by 51% over a 28 day period. These results are based on a cosumer testing for 28 days.

To Use: As a part of an evening routine, after cleansing and toning apply a small amount to the face and throat. Massage in until completely absorbed. Follow with a night crème if required.

The lightening and brightening properties of Lotusine are not permanent, but will gently and effectively assist in achieving a glowing and even skin tone.

Nutrimetics Skincare Interview

1. How does the active ingredient in the Brightening range work and how does it inhibit the production of melanin?
LotusineTM is a blend of several active ingredients. It contains a specific species of Lotus Extract, a stable form of Vitamin C and an extract from a specific part of the Chilean Boldo Tree (Diacetyl Boldine -DAB). These ingredients are well-known for their skin brightening properties.

These ingredients work in different ways for optimal product efficacy either by inhibiting the production of melanin in the stratum corneum (melanin is the main contributor to skin colour), or reducing the oxidation state of melanin (higher oxidised melanin is darker). The active complex is an excellent antioxidant and it will prevent melanin being oxidised.

UV light stimulates melanin production and the Moisturising Crème contains a sunscreen filter to minimise/prevent this effect. Hence, the whole range is designed to protect the skin melanin from outside stimulants, which subsequently adjusts the internal melanin quality.


2. In addition to inhibiting the production of melanin in the skin, how does the product actually lighten skin if it does not include a 'fading' or skin bleaching ingredient?

3. Does the product exfoliate the skin? If so, what is the exfoliating ingredient? If not, how does it encourage skin renewal to reveal brighter skin?
Yes, it does this through the inclusion of Vitamin C in a stable form.


4. Can this product be used to target specific skin discolouration, for example for people who want to reduce the appearance of freckles or dark spots?
Yes, it can be used for that purpose.


5. Do you have to use every product to get results?
Yes, for the best results. Independent clinical trials have shown when the Day Crème and Serum are used together the skin lightening result is doubled.


6. How does the product brighten my skin? Can it brighten without paling?
The products are developed to brighten the skin to give radiance, refine skin and have no paling results. (ref to Q1 for the mechanism on brightening)


7. How soon can people start to see results from regular use of the product?
The timing of the results depends very much on skin type. Generally, one can see some results after one to two months of daily use.


8. At what age can people safely start to use this product?
30+


9. Can long-term use of this product cause skin to become overly fair or white?
No. The range can be used continuously or for a period of time to achieve the desired complexion.


10. Can long-term use of this product cause damage or sensitivity to the skin?
No


11. Pregnant women often experience skin discolouration during their pregnancy, are there any potential issues or side-effects with pregnant women using these product?
The products have been safety assessed and approved by Toxicologist. However, pregnancy can bring on skin sensitivity to individuals. It is recommended that they seek their doctor's advice before use.


12. Are there any products that are not recommended to be used in conjunction with this product, for example can products containing AHAs and glycolic acids be safely used with this product range?
It is recommended not to use the products containing high levels of AHA or Retinol in conjunction the range.
